Baton Round boxes

H83MK2 boxes stencilled for use with L60A1 or L60A2 AEP baton rounds.
All these boxes have a high density foam insert designed to hold 12 rounds.
Notice that the L60A1 are described as BATON, the L60A2 are described as PROJ(ectile)

From top in the photos:

L60A1 PSH March 2008 Lot 009 (The H83MK2 manufacture is RG 1986)

L60A1 PSH April 2009 Lot 012 (The H83MK2 manufacture is PMD 09)

L60A2 PSH September 2012 Lot 033 (The H83MK2 manufacture is MPSL 2012)
The lid has handwritten issue information. Tennent Street Police Station is in Belfast.

L60A2 PSH January 2015 Lot 003 (The H83MK2 manufacture is PMD 91)

(I’d be interested in buying an F632 box with stencilling and insert for 48 AEP rounds, or other baton round packaging)

Unusual item. It looks like a baton/irritant case that has had markings added.
If it is 37mm I think that is a bit bigger than O gauge. The case would be too short for a normal O gauge punt gun load, as punt gun cases are about twice that length.
Looking at the case wall markings I think they are probably stamped using one of those rubber stamp sets that have a selection of loose letters, probably stamped using enamel paint instead of ink. The head-stamp spacing looks a bit amiss so it could be hand stamped simply by eyeball alignment.
If it was a military case, what was the intended weapon. If it was a 37mm riot-gun or flare pistol why mark the cartridge O Gauge? It would be simpler to just call it a 37mm Shot Load.
Taking all these observations into account I think it is indeed a fake that was probably intended to fool cartridge collectors into thinking it is an O Gauge punt gun case.

I now have an F632 box that originally held 48 L60A1 AEP rounds, and it's in super condition except that the foam insert is missing.
If anyone has a foam insert designed for 48 rounds please let me know. (4x 12 round inserts will not fit)
Also, does anyone know if the F632 was/is also used to pack L60A2 AEP rounds.

Hi, Yes I have a current (Sept 16) listing for L60A2 to be packed in F632 and also H83 and M2A1.

I picked up two more L60A2 AEP boxes today, both with PSNI issue provenance.

One has markings for Number 4 Tactical Support Group, Castlereagh, the other has markings for the Police Training College, Garnerville. I assume that F/T on the second box may indicate 'for training'.

Both of these boxes, and the Tennant Street Police Station box I posted previously, are from the same manufacturing Lot. PSH/0912/033

Thanks LCPCOMBAT for the heads up. Here are photos of the insert that I got from that same seller a short time ago.
Notice that the insert lid allows the round count to be viewed, whilst still protecting the primers.

(The rounds shown are all fired/inert)

Do you have a picture or other description, is it anything special or just a clear plastic bag?

Did you take a sharp intake of breath when you read that? :D

Its that thick clear, polythene plastic, folded and shrink wrapped around the foam packaging. It has to be cut to gain access to the contents so you won't get a complete one.

L5A5 Baton

Purchased at Beltring today. Here is an H83 Mk2 tin that originally held 25 rounds Anti Riot 1.5 Inch Baton Medium Range L5A5.

Anti-Riot 1.5 Inch L8A1 Proof Round

A lucky find on eBay, an M2A1 tin for Anti-Riot 1.5 Inch L8A1 proof rounds. Lot 001 loaded at Brock's Fireworks, Sanquhar, Scotland in February 1987.

I would love to get an inert/empty L8A1 Proof round if anyone has one.

The tin is a repurposed American tin made by S.C.F. (Standard Container Co. NJ) in 1974-75. Originally dark green, now brown both inside and out. The outline of the original stencilling is visible if the tin is held at the right angle in the right light. It reads as 1140 CTGS 5.56 MM BLANK M 200 CARTONS LOT LC 60-186

me neither... so is L8A1 the designation for the proof round for a type of round (with a different designation) that was in service?

Ah ok sorry, for testing the weapon itself... I thought maybe it was a prototype round. Would proofing be done at certain intervals in weapon’s life (i.e. after so many standard rounds fired), as well as done at factory/after leaving factory? Would proof round contain same projectile as reg round but with greater propellant load then?

Good questions. I don’t know the proof rules/procedures for arms within the military. Maybe someone knows, or can provide some information on the L8A1 Proof Round.
