G'day everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this bofors clip. Seems incredibly intricate for a simple primer protector, so I presume it had another purpose?

The protector came mounted on a bofors clearing round, both dated 1955.

Information on the protector includes:
Clip Protecting Base Cartridge. SN 239
RNAD.FLY.1955

It actually says "PLY" which would be RNAD Ernesettle, Plymouth, UK and was probably used for in house repair of 40mm ammunition purposes.
RNAD Ernesettle closed about 15 or more years ago.
I went there once about 20 years ago as part of a bid team looking at running the operation, but when I saw its proximity to the Saltash Bridge and the scale of the ammunition held there I thought 'this place has no future'.
