Well that's cleaned up nicely. What method did you use ? I would guess its Italian with the reference to Breda.
Cheers

I didnt know that E Breda produced torpedo. Maybe he have a Whitehead licence for production?
I have a few metod to clean items from the sea. In this case i use hydrochloric acid for sea cluster then paste for polishing brass. it can it better :) Sory for my typing english.

Beautiful job restoring this part. It looks like this part may be associated with the depth control assembly?

Jason

No exactly my field. But guessing by the Metri (meter) indicator maybe 5 / 500 meters, 10 / 1000 meter up to 60 / 6000 meter running distance. Distance control in case to get higher speed?? More air out of the tank, more fuel??

I have only seen, METER, stenciling on two types of torpedo parts, the depth control apparatus and the arming safety fuze that arms the torpedo a certain set distance from the launching vessel to avoid tube detonation or close proximity detonation.

few new parts from the same torpedo. Thanks to the local divers...20170417_151929.jpg20170417_151938.jpg20170417_151951.jpg20170417_151956.jpg and after 20170419_131340 - kopija.jpg20170419_131352.jpg20170419_131402.jpg20170419_131414.jpg20170419_131423.jpg20170419_131434.jpg20170417_152001.jpgonly what i find for E.Breda is this article from the net.breda torpedo.png

Firstly my apologies for the delayed reply on this...................just been too busy lately!

OK, it is part of the Inlet Value and yes the shown scale is indeed a distance controller.

The diagram is from a 1931 "Manuale Del Silurista" handbook.

More soon.

Cheers

As promised - further info...........

OK, my initial thoughts on this (not posted) was I believe correct - it is the start valve to supply compressed air to the torpedo motor and auxiliary systems (i.e. gyro).

The "L" shape lever is a common feature, especially in earlier torpedoes where it protrudes externally from the torpedo body via a slot (inside the torpedo tube) and when the torpedo is fired by the external system, it levers & mechanically opens the value to the internal compressed air supply as the torpedo egresses from the torpedo tube - basically starting the torpedo motor.

The distance limiter mechanism forces the "L" back the other way shutting off the supply after approx. 4000m.

Great find!

Cheers
Drew

BTW - My google translation of Italian sucks!!!! (but then my English is no better :tinysmile_angry_t: )
