All dimensions that are shown here had been taken from the object with calliper.

The grenade consists of a cup-like portion from steel in which is a smaller diameter cap inserted
(press-fitted). The Cap is hold in position by 4 strong center-punch marks, which are exactly all
90°around the grenadebody. Inside oft he cap there´s a center-tube in which the Fuze with the
detonator can be screwd-in.

Height of Grenade-Body without Fuze: 115 mm = 4.5275 inches

Height of Grenade with Fuze: 140 mm = 5.5118 inches

Diameter of Genade-Body: 60,5mm = 2.3818 inches

Colour of Gren.Body: black

Circular Cutout of 15,50 mm = 0.6102 inch in the Rear oft he Grenade-Body
The Cutout in the Body has a Diameter of approx. 15,50 mm = 0.6102 inch and seems
to be carefull drilled (not stamped), since the edges are not bendet done at all. Also the
inner center-tube for the fuze and detonator had been NOT damaged by this cutout.

3-lined white Stencil-Markings on the Frontside of the Grenade:says
SMOKE
WP M15
BURS. TYPE

1-lined white Stencil-Marking on the Rearside of the Grenade says:
ADPANH

NOTE: The Marking on the Rear side doesn´t seem to so bright as the one on the
Frontside, but also storage and sunlight might have changed the appearance over
the years.

Meaning of the Markings
The meaning of the Front-marking is clear to understand as US-Type-M15 Smoke
Grenade White Phosphorous Filler, Bursting Type. The Height of each Letter is … mm.
Manufacturer and also Filling-Date are missing
The meaning and Orign of the Word on the Rear is not known. The second letter is really
a triangular-shaped – but not only the upper part of an letter „A“
-->Here Your Help is much appreciated

Some Guesses:

  1. Colour-Code for Grenade-Body and markings are not in line with the US- or
NATO-Standards for a Live-Type-Grenade but could the black body with the
white markers and missing manufacturer and missing filler-date, together
with the professional cutout point to a factory made unfilled DUMMY
(comparable situation as for the Mk1A1 for MkII Fragmentaion Grenade???).
Would this make sence, can anybody of You proof this ???
-->Here Your Help is much appreciated

2. The previous owner thought these could be Russian cyrillic markings and that
this grenade came from American War-Aid to Russia.
-->Here Your Help is much appreciated

3. I am looking for further Fotos of M15 Smoke Grenades WP

Ralf
