Pictured is a somewhat battered but still interesting 12pdr 8cwt drill round. My understanding is the gun was carried aboard warships and could be landed to support Royal Marine/ Royal Navy personnel operating ashore. The round is dated 1918 and is 202mm long, rim 105mm and mouth 83mm. Interesting the case is marked for both the 8cwt and 12 cwt versions, despite the case length being very different. The mouth diameter has confused me for years as the references I have mention this gun using the same projectiles as the 12pdr 12cwt which is very much 76.2mm. Pictured alongside a standard 12pdr 8cwt case, with Royal Marine cap badge and against a 12pdr 12cwt training round.
