Sherman cutaway

Looking at the back Armour makes you think twice how vulnerable you can be for protection in one of these.
 
With a tank only the side normally shown to enemy fire is thick. Sides, back, top and bottom can be surprisingly thin.
 
Sherman rear plate is the same as the side plate, 1 1/2" thick (38mm) Mind you, Panther side armour was only 40mm thick.
