Today, found this French 47mm as Trench Art, now restored

It had the usual nonsense soldered to it and the lip of the case was sort of Petalled out, but not too far.
I was able to bring it around to it's original state.

How did you remove the solder from the brass?

You can remove virtually all traces of solder on brass with a butane torch and some coarse cotton rag. Heat the solder until it starts to melt and quickly and firmly rub the molten solder off with the rag. Do not use synthetic fabric as it will melt and stick to the brass. You may have to reheat a couple of times to remove all but a very thin trace of solder. The residue can then be removed by polishing.
