What does it hold, I've not seen boxes like this before, but the styles goes back to the 1890s at least.
I was told 25pr. fuzes ? but I can't be sure of that ~
14 1/2" x 7 x 4 give or take 1/4"
Two of them

Two more images, boxes made by different makers,
Maker is well marked on one box, I haven't found
it on the other, but maybe stamped in end grain like the 43
date and is unclear now. Some cleaning done to remove
white house paint. I tried to use the information at the beginning of this
area, but I don't see any T boxes listed.

I am trying to find a contents list for the 25pr. limber, if it carried spare fuzes, then
these boxes might have been used ? But I can't find anything ! This amazes me ~ :tinysmile_cry_t:

Has no one ever seen this type of box before ? Does it show up in any manual or official list ?
By way of comparison this older 1891 fuze box is basically the same design, only the recess for
the label and size and interior fittings to suit different contents is has changed.

The current system of naming boxes began in 1917 and was announced in "Current List of Changes"

Boxes2.jpg

I have no lists prior to this.

T in the lists is Tubes.

You've got me wondering, is your box 1843?

1943 is marked on both.

T3

Size: Length 15.25" Breadth 7.375" Depth 4.25"
Empty Weight n/k

Tubes P.S.A.
Number Packed: 200
Gross weight: 12 lbs. 4 oz.

This is it, but no mention of what was held, (or I'm missing the meaning) 200 of something ???

What is Tube P.S.A. Does anyone have one of these.

Clearly not a fuze per say, and I had wondered about that given the size of the box.

a quick search on the net for ww2 tube P.S.A. turns up the most amazing lot of useless things
like this !

But I did find this in the 1926 Text Book of Ammunition, it is likely close to the answer to what the boxes held. Though by
1943 I expect there were some changes ? If anyone has more up to date (1943 information) I would like to see it.

I added the images of the Tube from that post as that is likely exactly what these boxes held.

I'm a bit lost on the 4.5" Gun, I know the 4.5" Howitzer from ww1 into ww2, but that uses a case.
What is this 4.5" ?

I found it, looks rather like a 5.5" now I get it !
