My best find at Military Odyssey this year, and a great addition to my wartime shotgun cartridge box collection.
It's a May 1928 manufactured H3 ammunition box, last used to repack 12 Bore No.7 shotgun cartridges in 1945, presumable for training purposes.
The bulk of stencilling on the box reads:
160
CTGS 12 BORE
LOADED No7 SHOT
REPKD TRE 8/45 /I\
The paper lid label has survived enough to read:
CARTRIDGES
12 BORE
No 7 SHOT
I cannot make out the last line of stencilling in the second photo, does anyone have any ideas?
Earlier use stencilling reads RL 23-3-42 and what looks like GROSS 29lb
My thanks to LCPLCOMBAT, Snufkin, and TimG, for identifying this as a naval box, with TRE indicating RN Armaments Depot, Trecwn, SW Wales.
(If anyone has a scrap condition box that could donate a catch and/or handle, please let me know)
