WWII Hedgehog Cut Away

M8owner

Well-Known Member
I found this item in an antique store. The asking price is $1000. Let me know if you really want it, and I will see what I can do. I believe there is some flexibility. I have never seen one for sale before. US Naval ordnance is not my area of expertise.

I believe that the item you show is not a hedgehog, but is really a 7.2 inch rocket. It is used like a HEP projectile, flattening out on obstacles before being detonated by the base fuze. Hedgehogs are the same length, but nose fuzed, and no rocket motor.

$1000.00 is ridiculous.

Antisubmarine = nose fuze. Anti obstacle demolition = base fuze. Photos from U.S. Subs Museum posting and HAZORD.

They aren't common but not really scarce either. An old surplus store named BW Trading in Ohio used to sell these original cutaways. I still have the one I bought from their Shotgun News ad back in the 1980s. I don't know how many they sold but remember them being listed for a while. Inflation is unpredictable but I also think $1000 is way too much for one. Maybe $200-$400.

They may come in handy now against the alligators swimming around in the Texas Streets.
You got away without damage to your property I may hope?
