The turkish drive band mystery

Hello guys,
I have been trying to figure out why some turkish artillery shells are missing this little section sometimes on their drive band. I have seen this example and others with about the same amount missing. Any ideas?

Many other types of shrapnell shells have this effect too, not only turkish shells. The shrapnel base ejection charge expanded the diameter of the shell in height of the driving band. You can meassure it, the diameter meassured in the grooves of the driving band is then larger than 75 mm. The length of the driving band is then to small for the circumference of the projectile. You'll find this effect only on fired shrapnell shells which were no duds.
