2 pounder ap projectile markings

A friend bought a 2 pounder AP projectile believed to be from a haul of ballasts weights that had its drive band removed for scrap. Anyone know about the markings especially the P before the 2 pounder, the Mks IX & X guns and the tracer type on the base. Was this round used on a long case 2 pounder fired from a tank?

Hi BMG50,
Thats a nice looking 2pr projectile, i would tend to agree that it was for use in the anti tank gun and not the Naval case, i have a case stamped for Mk IX Gun, i will try and find a picture. Thanks for showing it.

Hi Chris its a practice shot for the Tank/anti tank gun the disc in the bottom is screwed in, later versions just had a cavity drilled in the base to except the trace element. Tig.

Left hand I believe, pics attached same shot , but the disc doesn't have the 2 holes for removal. Get the base of the shell hot with a blowlamp and the luting should soften to undo,Cheers Tig
