I have a few 1974 81mm M374 mortar rounds and found this untouched crate dated 1974 w/ tubes to put them in....the crate appears untouched and it appears the paper impregnated wrap melted on the tubes. The black tar paper tubes are covered in this hard brown wax like covering. I need ideas to somehow melt the brown wax off the original tubes. The visible black areas with no wax are pristine, can I somehow get it all off? Can it be done without damaging the tubes? All ideas appreciated. Please see pictures.

A hair dryer or more carefully a paint stripper/electrical terminal cover heat shrinker gun, but I'd probably leave them as they are.
