    M15 signal cartridge

    Greetings to all...
Is this Signal cartridge case from the USA ?
It is 37 or 38 mm inside neck and 194mm long.
It is a rimless case with a diameter of 39mm across.
    Marked " M15 SIGNAL " " 7 - 42 " " ESCO " and a lot no.
Who or what is ESCO ? What fired this ? A Very pistol type instrument or something else ?
    Thanks very much
    Charley

There is/was a series of this flare. I have found references noting:
    M10 white flare w/parachute
    M11 red star w/ para.
    M14 red star
    M15 white star blinker
    M16 green star blinker

    37MM
    U.S made.
Not sure what blinker is. Nor ESCO. Mine are I.F.S. manufactured.
They were used in either the AN-M8 pistol or the M9 hand projector.
My two examples. An M15 and an M11.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

"Blinker" is german for "Strobe". But, this pyrotechnic effect appeared first in the 1980s, if memory serves me right. NICO patented some compositions for military signalling with adjusted strobe frequencies, but I never saw it used as a military signalling device.
