here is the catouche for the explosive shell 7.7cm Mle FK 96 Gr.
Does anyone have a beautiful shot of the projectile ??


The cartridge has a cavity at the back for a small smoke cartridge.
The cartridge is surrounded by wax to block it.
Priming with a Zdlg92.

Three HE rounds for the WWI German 7.7cm FK96n/A. Left to right, Model 1914 Cast Iron HE, Model 1915 HE and Model 1915 HE with time fuze for Anti Aircraft use.

As far as I know, the long HE projectile was used for HE and Gas, left to right, HE (original paint), Blue Cross and Mustard gas.

it's from Katthöfer's book "Die deutsche Rohrwaffenmunition im ersten Weltkrieg", but it contains a lot of failures taken over from french/british war time documents (Notes on...). It was written 20 years ago, a time when the people exchanged paper copies and only a few documents were available.

In this case he made a page about the Feldgranate 96 and is writing about two types of this shell (left and right side of the drawing). In reality he is sowing a "Feldgranate 96 n/A" on the left side of the drawing and a "Kanonengranate 14 (96)" on the right side. The last mentioned shell was filled with FP60/40 casted directly into the shell.

The F.Gr.96 has no crimp grooves as in the attached drawing. But your cardboard container was used for the F.Gr.96 and the F.Gr.96 n/A.
