105mm M15 short case?

Falcon

Well-Known Member
I recently saw an unusual 105mm Case for sale. I believe it was Belgian made by MMJ.

It was clearly based on the widely used US designed 105mm M14 case.

The markings were roughly 105 MM M15 above MMJ - (LOT) - (DATE). It was defnitely marked "M15" as opposed to M14.

The case length was around 8 inches (200mm).

The case mouth looked to have been factory shortened, and not roughly cut down with a saw.

There was no primer fitted, although it was threaded to accept a screw-in primer, as opposed to the press-fit type used with the standard M14 cases.

Does anyone have any more information on this case, what was its intended use?

Thanks for any replies.

The 105mm M15 case is used for blank firing. I have two of these blank cases (US made). One being a cut down, over-stamped M14 and ink stamped "105MM M15 BLANK HOWITZERS LOT PA 3-1," the other is a modern M15B2 case made from aluminum. Both of mine measure about 6 inches (152mm) in length.

I have a case, dated 1953, that was converted into a blank by cutting to length and overstamping (XXX) the original M14B1 impressions. The case wall printing IDs the new use with no reference to it being an M15. If there was any inking on the base, it is too faint to see.

I have a later M15 case stencilled M395 Blank on the base. Headstamp is 105mm M15 CAQ01M01-04.
The primer is M1B1A2 CA-02A03-01. Who is CA or CAQ maker? 152mm case length with sealing remnants 35mm inside case.

The photo which Krt7.92 posted is very similar if not identical to the case I saw. What is the actual length of that case?

If anyone here wants the case I saw for their collection, send me a PM. I saw it at a car boot sale being sold by a seller who is there every week.
