C.E PRIMER box

got this very nice C.E primer box today complete with all the tubes.i can see old lettering under the paint but cant see a date of the original loading

A very nice example. The package is fully marked with the date of manufacture and lot number. There is no question of loading in the sense that you make an empty item and then it has to go away for filling. ROF Chorley who make the explosive CE, mould these in a die, pack them in the tubes and packages which they outsource and put the dates on the packages and tubes, which would have been pre marked with the rest of the information.
The obscured marking could well be an inspection mark.

there is enough of the original lettering to be able to see PRIM CE and some other letters under the paint so this box has definatley been remarked
 
heres another nice example i got this week.almost the same except the weight which is 2lbs difference(which is quite alot)considering they are the same except for the
mark 2,mark 2/L,what does this mean
also still wondering what "field" means in the description

What are the dimensions of these crates? Anybody know how WW2 types were different? Like unpainted for example?
