Shillelagh Antitank Missile

M8owner

Well-Known Member
My local military history museum, Museum of the American GI, has one of the nicest operational tank collections in the US. They asked me to find a Shillelagh missile for their Sheridan tank. These appear to be hard to find. Does anyone know of one available anywhere? Does anyone have one in their collection? May I request photos and drawings in case I have to make a reproduction for them? It is not a normal museum operation with its hand out all the time (don't get me wrong - they will accept donations). It is a well funded organization that does not mind paying market prices to get what it wants. Thank you for your help.

Never seen one for sale. Warhead photos previously posted by US Subs. Years ago there were some aluminum loading shapes with demill cuts in the nose for sale. 6 inch diameter, fired from the 152mm M81 gun/launcher tube on the Sheridan and later M60A2.

Try Marshall Morgan in TN. He specializes in museum supply or ordnance items, very nice pieces but out of my price range. Best I've ever found is the drill version.

I decided to make one for the local museum. Every thing is press fit together.

It looks really nice! Do you have any photos of the various pieces you pressed together?

Here is the missile all painted and stenciled. Not perfect, but not too bad either.

You're wrong Steve. That IS perfect. Brent should be thrilled with that piece to display with the Sheridan. Great job!

Rick

I finally found a real dummy missile to purchase.

Hi,

Nice item
What's the difference between the two dummies referenced in the manuals as M29 and M29A ? And which one yours would be ?

Cheers,

S.

I was hoping you'd have more that what's in the manuals I have (TM 9-2350-230-10 and TM 9-2350-230-12) because it's really poor !

Here is an image I found on this interesting site: http://www.williammaloney.com/Aviat...on/pages/02XM150E6_152mmGunLauncherBreech.htm

The missile (and my new dummy) have a raised guide rib that engages with a slot in the barrel to keep it from spinning due to the rifling when launched. I did not know that before.

Also, it appears one style of dummy has the rib, and the blue ones do not. We need to ask US-Subs if his blue dummy has the guide rib?

Mine is a little earlier, marked as an XM29, so the features may differ slightly, but no, it has no index key or slots. It does have a long index line however. Not long ago I found a case (Cartridge case?) for one, thought I'd include it here. This case has an index slot in the rim.
