Here is a little corker i bought from BOCN member Burney Davis,

Some original paint left and some nice base stamps remain. The lacquer has come away but the phosphate dip still there. My pal Mick reckons clean off the lacquer but im tempted to leave as is because the nice case bottom stamps dont look like they are deep into the metal.I even found a waffenamt birdie stamp too!.
Im more than happy with this round and it was at a bargain price too!.
Still laughing at `Munitionskiste` comment when i bought it.He said "You just couldnt resist eh!" as i had stated earlier that i wasnt spending a lot that day!:xd:

cheers

Here is a nice shot of the birdie on the fuze. The fuze was a little crunched at the end where another person had dropped it that day!:ahhhhh:

However, the damage was minimal and just adds to the character.

Excellent projectile Waff. Often for the german 7.62cm the white band below the fuse is gone so nice to see it with the original writing.

Good headstamp also.
Do you know anything about the gun this shell was for?

Hi,
This is a German 7,62 x 385R (7,62cm SprGr.39 L'spur) amunition for Russian captured guns.
Used in;
7.62 cm FK 288 (r) - Russian M-42/ZIS-3.
7.62 cm FK 288/1 (r) - Russian M-41
7.62 cm FK 290/1 (r) - Russian M-02/06
7.62 cm FK 295/1 (r) - Russian M-02/30, L/30
7.62 cm FK 295/2 (r) - Russian M-02/30, L/40

Regards.

I did hear a tale the other day about the white band on german rounds.Something to do with loading in low light/night so you can see the tip without clanging it on the the gun?
Any truth in that?

cheers

What I do know is the white band was used on various calibres to signify different things.

For example for the 7.62cm Pak 36 (r) the projectiles have a white tip or a white band below the fuze to distinguish them from the 7,5 cm Pak 40 cartridges, because the same case (6340 St) was used.

With the 8.8cm AP rounds there was a serious of white tip as follows:
8,8 cm. Pzgr. Patr. (black projectile)
8,8 cm. Pzgr. Patr. 39 (white tip)
8,8 cm. Pzgr. Patr. 39/1 (white tip with number "1")

ciao
here my 7,62cm round
nothing excellent, but I have a question for you.

I note a strange crimping groove on mine shell case. It doesn't match the shell.
it differs from the other one, that is the standard crimping groove saw on german cases.
could it be for another shell or it's only a bad work made in factory???

thanks for yours attention

best regards

Hi fert.
You have 2 very nice shells there.

Reference the AP projectile. If there is no white paint on the tip it is possible it is a 7.5cm pzgr. used with the 6354 case (7.5cm KwK).

Unless you found them as an original match it is very possible the case is crimped for a different projectile.
