unidentified British Primer protector No25 MkIV

good morning, I wonder if anyone can identify this primer protector for me - at, least thats what I think it is. It is stamped No.25 MkIV. It has 3 small legs that allow it to stand slightly proud of the base of the case and, presumably, would have fitted under a 'spider' type protector? But is that correct and for what type of shell would it have been used with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

thanks, Dave

It doesn't sit proud of the base Dave, there are three corresponding holds in the base of the case which secure it in place. I think this one is for 4.5" Naval cases.

OK D, thanks for that. And the cloth loop goes over one of the arms of the normal 'spider' type base protector? To be honest, I can't remember seeing a case with the 3 little holes in - any chance of any photos?

regards, dave

Well I never. I have had one of these for about 30 years and never thought it was a primer protector. Thanks for your post.
Cheers

I haven't had mine that long Gary but certainly a good few years but only now have I got around to trying to find out exactly what it was for. Dave

Picture as requested Dave. This is the base of the 4" case. Can't get to the 4.5" at the moment. There is no other 'spider', the loop is for removing before firing.

Best

OK I get it - the little spring circlips on the 'legs' which I thought stopped the legs from coming off, actually secure them into the holes in the case. Well done my knowledgeable friend.
