MoD cheapskates!

Yes, you would think they would learn, wouldn't you? Back in 1995 the MOD placed an order for 7.62 mm ball with Indep, from Portugal, as it was cheap, and the sample supplied for tests performed well. It was intended to be "high accuracy", and was to be supplied to the NRA at Bisley for use in that year's "Imperial" meeting. However, the main order, when it arrived, was found to have very erratic ignition, and was also inconsistent, in that you could have 10 excellent rounds if you were lucky, but if unlucky, 9 would go where they were pointed, but the 10th would go anywhere! This stuff was given the number L37A1, and was withdrawn very quickly, with Radway Green being given an emergency order for several hundred thousand L2A2 ball rounds to replace it. RG made this overnight, and it was issued the next day and shot very well.

Just shows they don't make em like they used to. Where are Mills Munitions when you need them?
