.50 calibre

Round 1 - CBC is Brazilian Cartridge Company, Brazil. L code is what it says on the tin, L8A1 ball.

Round 2 - MAST Technologies of Boulder City USA, allegedly made for Abu Dhabi. Blue tip would indicate incendiary.

Round 3 - CBC Brazil

Round 4 - Tracer, probably M17

Round 5 - Tracer M17, as it says in the headstamp.

Round 6 - Kynoch L11A2 as you presumed.

Round 7 - As above.

Round 8 - Kynoch L13A1

Kynoch ceased production of .50 around 1990, although they were buying in some rounds from other manufacturers but headstamped as Kynoch for some time before this.

You have asked for the "L" numbers of most of the above rounds, but the answer is already given in the headstamp.

Hi TonyE,
Thanks for the info.
Round 1, Does L8A1 designate this rounds as BALL?
Rounds 6, 7 & 8. What are the differences between the L11A2 and the L13A1 Spotter Rounds?

.50 bmg

Yes, L8A1 is the ball round and the matching tracer from CBC is the L9A1.

The difference between the two ranging tracer/spotter rounds is that the L11 is optimised for the trajectory of the 105mm main gun on the Centurion tank and the L13 for the 120mm gun on the Chieftain.

Ballistics are:
L11A1: Bullet weight 40.56 g (645 grns), Vo 914m/s (3,000 fps)
L11A2: Bullet weight 40.56 g (645 grns), Vo 903m/s (2,962 fps)
L13A1: Bullet weight62.53g (965grns), Vo not known.

Regards
TonyE
