Saw this 12 pounder 12 & 8 CWT Drill dated 1918 today. Very battered, but still the oldest drill I have seen.

Overall length : 203 mm

I managed to add this drill round to my collection.

Very differnt construction to any other I have seen. It would appear as though it was specially manufactured as a drill, rather than using a spent case.

What makes it more intersting, and this is the question, it would also appear a if it was used with a "Live" primer for practice purposes. It has a tube / "barrel" down the centre, not the normal metal rod. The tube is attatched to the base section with sufficient room to accomodate a primer.

Please have a look at the photos and tell me if my theory is correct ?
