12PR case markings id please

Can anyone shed any light on the attached markings on a 12PR case?

Hi Charlie,

The 12 Cwt is the weight of the gun (as opposed to 6Cwt, 18Cwt, etc.); the I is the Mark number of the case: ECC is Edward Curran, Cardiff (the manufacturer); and N indicates Naval issue. I suspect the other markings are inspector's stamps.

Just a question out of curiousity. Was the 12PR around in WW1? The reason I am asking is that I have a 13PR WW1 casing and have yet to run across a WW1 dated 12PR casing. The shells are really not my area but just want to know.........Dano

Dano, the earliest 12pr 12cwt case date I have is 1896, the gun was introduced in 1894. Other cwts were later but all in use for WWI and I think only the 12cwt made it to WWII. 2pr
