The US used them for a little bit, seems like I've got a pub on it somewhere. I'll try and look when I get home tonight.
 
Used by both Britain (2inch bomb thrower Mk1) and the USA(2inch mortar M3) to provide smoke cover,have attatched a little info on the bombs and a couple of drawings of the mortar

There's 'Chapter and verse' on the weapon in 'Service Instruction Book, Churchill Tank Mk VII & Mk VIII' 1944. I have the publication, but not to hand at the moment - will look it out.

Interesting thread, thanks for showing. This is presumably what modern multi barrelled smoke dischargers (MBSD) on armoured fighting vehicles were developed from.
