20mm

Well-Known Member
Picked up a few trinkets from an old Vet... included a few 20mm bits.

Oerlikon cases.. the one on the left looks to be blown out at the neck???

Headstamps (first one is left case, second is right)

Plain steel projo with removable fuze (solid and empty) and no markings.

Black practice projectile with hollow base (no markings or fuze).

Green projo with yellow band is marked: Mk 7 - D - 11/43
Case is marked: TR 1944 20mm Mk II

Any comments on the "blown out" case? Headstamp = A.S.C. 1944 20MM - MK - 4

Oerlikon

The "blown out" neck of your Oerlokon case is normal for a fired case. the Oerlikon is an advanced primer ignition weapon and the round fires whilst the case is still moving forward and before it is fully chambered, thus blowing out the neck. there has been plenty of dicussion of this in previous threads if you search "Oerlikon".

"TR" is the Three Rivers facility in Canada. I cannot remember who "ASC" is and I don't have my references in front of me. Will check and post later if no-one else does.

Thanks Tony and Mossie... I remember reading the post... forgot that it was Oerlikon that had the gun....

Also got a few ammo tins and some fired shells.... looks like one of the 106mm recoilless projectiles may be live as well :tinysmile_eyebrow_t

So EOD will be by on Monday to pick that baby up.... Better safe then sorry...
