A meagre 2pr assembly for comparison, but showing a .22 cal 2pr subcal round.
(I may have posted some years back a 6pr version of this type of thing.)

Nice items Gordon, nothing meagre about them, becoming harder to find in Gc. Tig.
 
More likely used on 30 yard ranges for gunnery practice so the loader is on in the practice as well as the gunner. They normally use the coaxial machine gun on a tank for main gun practice until they are ready to use the big stuff at another range.

The 3,7cm Pak had a similar device. I just can't remember the specific name without looking up my reference notes.

Did the 2 pdr need a different firing pin for the sub calibre device?

It might be an illusion, but the base might be a touch off centre so that the normal pin might fire the rim being close enough to crush it.
But only a manual will have the answer I think.
