Hi All, hoping someone an confirm the identity of this very sad looking Case, rescued today from a scrap brass box. Am i right in thinking this has been used more than once as it has the worlds allocation of makings on the head. Can you tell me what all the markings mean, I think it is WW1? as in the Center it has the following.

No2. IV
12/16
VSM
A

the Case is just over 14 1/2 inches long
base 2 1/2 Dia

Thank you for any help you can give.

Richard

Hi Richard,

Firstly some "clearer" close up photos would better assist yr request (Use the "macro" setting if the camera has one) :tinysmile_shy_t:

If the above is from the primer, then it is a No2 (MkIV) dated December, 1916 and made by Vickers Son & Maxim (VSM)

The "A" - could be a lot number (?) - sorry can't remember.

Cheers
Drew
