34mm Information needed

Greetings (-:
This is a grey laquered steel 34x185 case.
These cases have been recently queried in the ECRA bulletin.
I am seeking info on the gun(s) for this cartridge.
And also info on the projectiles used etc. Was this a CTA round?
It seems to be an extended, unshouldered version of the 25x137 KBA case.
The extraction groove is almost exactly the same.
Only when i lined these cartridges up for the photo did i realise that the
25x173 KBB case has such a different groove to the 25x137.
The groove diameter is 33.8mm in the 34x185 and the 25x137.
It is 32.5mm in the 25x173 case.
In the base photos the 25x137 case is to the left.
I had heard from somewhere (?) that this was a Rheinmetall from the 90s.
Thanks to everyone...

Looks very much like Oerlikon as you have the small "e" from the "Oe" !
See the example below
As for the nationality, apart from being from the "Oerlikon" family of weapons the makers monica is incomplete and not one that I recognise?

Interesting round there Kz11gr...the case that i am questioning is the central (grey) one in my photos. It is almost cylindrical and has NO HEADSTAMP (which i forgot to mention). Your Oerlikon round could well be based on the standard 35x228 with a reworked base (or enlarged primer hole anyway).

Hi Charley, I can't answer your question but confirm I have an identical case. I'll be interested to see what BOCN or ECRA come up with.
I'd guess CTA based on the fact that the 5cm supershot (50 x 330) looks like a grown up version of this one. For details on the 5cm see Tony's web site
http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/WLIP.htm
As the 50 x 330 was developed from the 35 x 228 Oerlikon I would think its quite reasonable to assume they did something like that with the KBB - pure speculation on my part though.
Dave.

A couple of photos from the 'Military Cartridge Relationships' article on my website. The first shows the 34x185 (I was the one asking for more information in the ECRA Bulletin), the second shows rounds based on the 30x173 and includes a 35x173, with the case necked-up to take standard 35mm Oerlikon projectiles. I know nothing about that one either!

Tony I can't see the photos.

35x185 as it now seems...

Hello all...cruising through de Hek's Military Cartridges (part 4) i have seen this round described as a 35x185 Rheinmetall experimental of about 1992.The projectile is very interesting...it is a blunt tungsten-cored plug with aluminium body and fins. The driving band is plastic. Being concerned about copyright issues, i am not including a copy of the drawings. If you have the book check page D-244.
