This is a case that I used to own. Recently I've converted a lot of photos onto Boots CDs, including these. I'm sure I have seen info about cases like these on another thread but don't how to modify my search to find it. Reading the base of the case I think I should have entitled it `.. for Mk16 & 16* guns'. The primer No 14 looks like it is an electric primer.

Although it doesn't appear to have 'Drill' stamped on the base, the knurled rim and three drilled holes would suggest that was its function.

The case was made by Vickers Armstrong, Elswick.

The primer, I suspect was made by Greenwood & Bately and filled by Brigend.

Hi ,

I agree with the knurled rim being used to denote drill or dummy ,but the three (blind) holes are part of the normal shell.
The holes are used to retain the primer protective cover.

cheers,
Bob

..and pics of sealant residue from primer cover and the no.14 electric primer.

cheers,
Bob
