Funny, years ago assassinations were very common at the turn of the 20th century. You would think there would be more today in this current climate. There is a good book by the Royal armouries about the Archduke Ferdinand assassination and the era of assassinations, talking about bullet proof vests and the guns used in assassinations of the time, a bit of a forensic analysis, a very good book.
my guess would be the would be assassin had watched too much TV where they rack the gun before use to keep it safe and forgot he needed to do that instead of going with it ready to go on pulling the trigger.
