I received this one from a gun show in Chicago. Using TM-43-0001-.... I identified it as an HE shell, not the TP ( target practice) variant. The projectile is crimped solidly into the steel case. The Fuze is marked "P.D. M503A1 LOT- LOP-12-5 5-54" It's nose has been drilled solid through and the fuze is empty, hollowed out and the shell itself empty. ( someone went through a lot of trouble emptying the contents). The projectile is OD green, marked" --HMU -4-433 53. 57 MM. HE M306A1- HECO ( in a circle)." The case has been bead blasted? ...silver gray in color, the usual brown lacquer finish is gone. 1) How to " restore " the brown lacquer finish on the casing? or should I even try? Best to leave alone? All thoughts appreciated.
