I haven't been able to gather much information about the weapon but assume it used a probert type arrangement for the shell? Case needs restoration but headstamp is 6pdr 6cwt I lot 526 1943. I cant see a case manufacturer stamp. Any information welcome.
Cheers Tig.

Your case looks straight, the two cases I have seen over here have more the shape of elongated Bofors case -
Yes Probert type projectiles. Information or images of the gun seem lacking in general ?

This may or may not help. No mention of Canadian manufacture.

Hi Gordon thanks for the link. My case is very tapered like a weird Bofors! Cheers Tig.

There used to be quite a few of the projectiles turning up over here, but they seem to have dried up.
The cases in contrast don't and I've only ever seen two of those. I kept a white drill example.

Thanks to you all for the assistance. I recollect seeing projectiles somewhere years ago. Unlikely to find anything nowadays. Cheers Tig.

I would not call that a Probert projectile.. I see the high gas check band, but this does not make it a Probert.

A proper Probert projectile has an additional driving band at the bourrelet as I understand it. The barrel should also have a long leed and a bore constriction to swage down the bands.

I have the identical design in a post war 3" naval type with the upper band which is really a centering band and these were squeezed.
I think these 6pr don't have that due to size only, but I think the point of them was the extra velocity and I think these very long barrels
are for that purpose. Some one else I'm sure can weigh in on ths. But i've also heard of a 3.7 version which was very effective.

There indeed was a 3.7 inch HE version.

For interest only, I have drawn headstamps of every calibre and date/maker I have found for 20+ years.
I have VATV in dates 1944 lots 145 and 899 on Mk111 cases and also VAEL 1944 lot 145.
I still have not found one for the collection yet. Obviously not used in Australia?

Hi Tony
Projectile turn up more than case.
Harry
