88mm Shell Casings

When I was stationed with UNPROFOR in The Former Yugoslavia in 1993-94 I spent a few nights at the British camp in Split. The REME NCOs had found a stash of Ex-Yugoslav Coast Artillery WWII era German 88mm shell casings, 39 and 40 headstamp dates if I remember correctly. Many had been sacrificed to make ashtrays!! Even after a night of drinking in the mess, I tried very hard to talk them out of just one unspoiled shell, but no luck.

88s were used as coastal guns in croatia until 1993. recently i have been blowing up some 200 pcs of APHE and airburst shells for 88.
i have notices that even after repairs by ex yu military industry original german stamps were visible on most of them.
and 88 is for sure one of my favorite wwii era type of ammo.
