Near as I could tell, they were still fuzed, and the site just cut the bomb apart around them. Maybe someone with more experience with German bombs can confirm?

That are german fuze pockets stil with there fuzes in there.
Explosive filling can be burnt quite safely once removed fromthe Bomb/Projectile, ROF Glascoed used to do this all the time.
Interesting thread. Identification can't have been simple. There was a similar place in UK that was decommissioned a little over 25 years ago, somewhere near where the M25 (London orbital motorway) now is. Thanks for sharing it with us.
