thanks kz11gr for the positive ID great photo showing what it would have looked like.
Pity that holes have been cut in the top of it, but I guess its quite unique !!!

regards Kev

In the U.S. it was know as the 240mm Mortar. The powder charge was contained in a brass cartridge case.

Also used by Germany. All are identical. We've seen the three of them (UK, FR, GE) side by side in Belgium at a recovery point, the only way to tell the three countries pieces apart was by the fuze. The yellow one in the museum photo above has the wrong fuze, looks like someone stuck a powder train time fuze in it. My US manual calls it the 9.45-inch, but it went by both designations.

Generally others see the action, I am fortunate in sometimes being able to look over their shoulders and watch what is going on.

restoration project

Im supprised no one has bought it or tryed to have a haggle with him, if you had some thick sheet steel and a welder this would be a good restoration project, and you can get in to clean the inside out before starting, even get it shot blated, some one should try around 100 and see what he says ? what would one go for normally ?

Hi guys i bought this after a little haggle, i never saw it the first time round, anyway i had discs welded into place after they were rolled to shap ,its now in the paint shop , i just need a correct fuze now if anybody knows of any for sale please let me know ,rgds Dave

First class repair!

That looks like a first class restoration job to me and you should be congratulated for saving a piece of "Heritage" !

I used the word repair in the heading and will apologise for that as what you have achieved there is a "restoration" to the highest standard and we all look forward to seeing the finished item.
Good luck with the paint job and stencilling.

Thanks guys , i just hope the painter does a good a job as the welder,, the origional colour on this one was dark brown so told them to do it in the same brown as it was origionally done in, i will post pics when i get it back , rgds Dave
