Brass cover? 15,2cm sprenggranate

Hi all.

Haven't posted heren in while.
Did read alot though.

I bought a 15,2cm sprenggranate.
I know the colour is not correct.
maybe a nice restauration project.
With it came some king of brass cover for something.
I really have no idea what its for.
The story that was told is that is is for covering the top of shell.
No idea why the shell should be covered, so i don't think that is true.
I put it on the bottom of the projectile and to my surprise it fits quite snug on it.
Does anyone have an idea what it could be?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Sipke

It's not for the projectile, its for the top of the shell case to keep the contents dry and from being contaminated.

So what has been told to me is true and it is indeed for the shellcase.
Wasn't sure about it.

Thanks BD.
