Its not a projectile.. its a increment charge holder. They are made of a moulded polystyrene type material and screw fit to the cartridge via the 4 indentations on the cartridge neck.theyre normally a green colour the one in your photo is at a public display so would assume its a stronger built drill version

You have an L31 series HE projectile (left), an L35 Charge Propelling FD (field) Normal (middle), and (most likely) an L45 series base ejection (BE) smoke (SMK) projectile (right). The thing on the top of the L35 charge is an expanded polystyrene charge holder which contains the fifth charge increment.
Also used with propelling charges which don't use the fifth charge increment, or the L35 when fifth charge increment isn't used, is a polystyrene bung that is screwed into the top of the case before the charge is loaded. This is called a 'Beckett'.
You'll find burnt and compressed charge holders and Becketts forward of the firing position of an L118 105 mm Light Gun when it's been firing.
