Hi Have found some info for you
1 This was the only gun of the 4.7 in calibre to fire shell of modern design with 5/10 crh heads and increased weight. It was carried in twin MK XX mountings by four of the L class destroyers and eight of the M class A total of 87 guns were made. Shell types used SAP. ( Semi Armour Percing) HE (High Explosive) Star

2 I never worked on this calibre of gun as it was out of service when i started at the depot (The 4.5ins gun replaced it.)

Hope this info helps

Hi Radioman1,

Will be great to know what is the shell of modern design mentioned.

1 Hi can only find drawings on the net of the SAP and Star shell from the 1930 They look like the old design

2 I think the old shell was aprox 62 lbs and the new one was 50 lbs
