Hi All,
I am currently restoring a First War MkI 60pdr Shrapnel shell (which i got from Lee :tinysmile_fatgrin_t cheers mate!) and have been freeing up the fuze on it which happens to be a No.88 which would have contained a long burning composition (for long range shrapnel fire in case you wondered).
My question is: Hog's book and the info in the fuze section on the site indicate that the "lower ring would have been lacquered red". Can someone clarify which ring would have been lacquered? Is it the actual removable time ring that would have been filled with the long burning composition, or is it the ring/base of the fuze with the numerals on it that would have been lacquered?
Hope that makes some sense?
Ben.
