Last friday at work i found an underground bunker or shelter the hard way,by falling through a hole in the roof, luckily only went about 3-4 feet and just a few bruises.today part of the section had a better look they widened the hole i originally fell in ,and shone a torch into it,inside was what looked like radio/electrical equipment and other debris, having decided it needed further investigation they excavated at one end and eventually found a doorway.Unfortunately or maybe fortunately all that was inside was some old radio or other electronic equipment,

That's great Spotter, what a treat!!
Did you say you got paid for doing this sort of thing??.....:tinysmile_shy_t:
Great work if you can get it.
Dave.

Well, I wondered what had been found there, I thought something had happened from all the activity. Yours is not the first to be found. About 10 years ago one of the tractors cutting the grass broke through a roof when one partially collapsed.
When I joined there were always rumours from the old boys about gas bombs/shells being dumped in bunkers and covered over. The story was that some were later found, but not all of them.
Should this be protected from demolition. I suspect our leaders will have it filled in

hello Aubrey,,yes there has been a fair bit of interest from your guys,i suppose they will look into wether its a rarity or not and if so wether it needs preserving,it needs making safe or more visible thats for sure

Could it have been for the secret underground army / for those who havnt heard of them , they were specially trained , game keepers , poachers etc whos job was in the event of invasion were to harass the enemy, a few of these bunkers are probably still around, untouched.

nothing that exciting steve all i can say is its on the site of an old ammo dump which has lots of other surface bunkers, just this one seems to have been forgotten about for a long time.sorry cant give anymore details as to the location of the site etc as its an ongoing clearance task ,
ref extra photos i dont have anymore but i think some others were taken,,i will see if i can get copies next week and providing i get permission i will post them

OK allan being a radio Amateur i maybe able to ID the radio set.

Couldn't it be a forward observation post for the Artillery school? The impact point of incomming practice shells (spotting charges) can be radiod back to the guns for fire correction purposes in long range fire practice
On the other hand I can hardly imagine the signal corps would simply abandon equipment marked with the broad arrow, to simply go unaccounted for from the equipment lists. Wasting equipment is not really the British army style.
