1937, Rape of Nanking. A Chinese production in Chinese, Japanese, German and several words of English. The movie follows a young Japanese soldier and several side line characters through the Battle of Nanking http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124052/. Some characters are historically correct like John Rabe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rabe. Well filmed and acted, authentic looking and.....a bit long (133min). You'll like the city-fighting opening scenes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q90R13aMwbA

If you track down the WW2 US "Why We Fight" propaganda series and watch the "Battle of China" episode, it has some eye-opening footage including the Rape of Nanking.

Interesting enough the Japanese biggest fear was for Chinese unification, and after some 5,000 years of Chinese history, the Japanese invasion finally achieved it!!!

Their campaign to break the "Chinese Spirit" aka Rape of Nanking had the exact opposite effect.
