Damanged Fuze Thread

Longbow

New Member
I recently acquired a large shell that has a lift hook on it, this is easily removed and screwed back in if needed, but I can't seem to fit the fuse in. Upon closer inspection the fuse has slight dents on the thread which I presume is the issue here. The dents are so small I had trouble picking them up on camera.

Notice how it's a little flatter at the arrow.

What's the best way to rectify this?

damaged thread

I use a triangular needle file takinf of just a little then try it til it fits. May find someone in engineering who has a thread chaser of the correct form and pitch or you can cheat and use a tap of the correct form and pitch and scrape off the offending metal. 2pr

In some instances where there is a lot of damage, you can use a Dremel tool with a thin cutting disk/wheel. These also work great to clean internal threads on projectiles.
