Hi, here is CKOALA,

your magnificent fuse was formaly intended for long range 15 cm schrapnells, but it proved to be faulty and therefore inaccurate for this purpose. In fact, the mechanism was unable to survive to the shock of discharge of such a powerfull gun. Those fuses were put appart and some new fuse had to be designed and the result was the famous Dopp Z 16 which was designed and built by a german famous clocks factory : JUNGHANS, hence the J in a 6 arms star.
The stock of Dopp Z 08 was no use until some one thought that it can be worth to put it on star bombs used by the Zeppelins to search their target in Great Britain; for this purpose a paper dial with timing was glued on the body of the fuse to help to give the correct lenght of time untill the powerfull light could be set alight out of reach of the very flammable hydrogen stored in the balloons in the frame of the airship... The star bomb was hanged under some parachute to give the correct direction for the powerfull flood of light and perhaps to slow down the rate of falling toward the ground.
Those DOPP Z 08 fuse were screwed to a flat socket in aluminium which does nothing to help to cross the air but was of much of use to fit it on a bomb !
The fuse itself was changed in design and some other features were added for the new assignement purposed. Hence those bolts protuding out of the cover cap. This fuse was rare and nowadays is far more so as it was made of aluminium aloyds which were liable to be destroyed by corrosion on the battle ground. Therefore you own a much prized fuse and if you are lucky enough, you can find out a star bomb...But there is no more Zeppelin to carry it !

think you are mixing up the Dopp.Z.16 with the M.K.Z which was developed and produced by Junghans. The MKZ is the root of all later fuzes with centrifugal weight clockwork (for example all german WW2 Fuzes with "FG" designation)

The Dopp.Z.16 has been developed by Heinrich Thiel for the Friedrich Krupp AG. After the first WW the Thiel Brothers improved the clockwork a little bit - you should know it from so many 2nd WW fuzes of many countries. Most of the Dopp.Z.16 are produced by Krupp.
