Ebay what a bunch of morons

I have no problem with their rules . If they don't want inert grenades , shells or bombs that's fine . We used to have a saying in my old business & that was "If you can't tell the difference between sh-t & dirty pudding , get someone who can" . EBay's problem is they employ some muppet who can't tell the difference . They have to pay tens of millions of $'s every year in court cases for selling fake designer label stuff & can't tell the difference between a bullet pencil in a Mary's tin & something possibly illegal . For a multi billion dollar corporation , that's just not good enough . NCS , no common sense .

Seems strange to have all those restrictions in place, yet still have list and search headings for the same items!

I had a 57mm HE round and casing up on auction on e-bay
and it got squashed.
Heres what i had it listed as:
You recently listed the following listing:

221144737913 - INERT 57MM HE T18E1 ROUND AND CASING View attachment 71966

Unfortunately, we had to remove your listing because of the following:

We have removed your item because we do not allow any type of ammunition on the site. This includes inert, live, or dummy ammunition. Please do not relist this item. We understand that there may be some frustration regarding the removal of an active listing but please be aware that were attempting to maintain a safe trading environment and have your best interests at heart. All fees associated with this listing have been credited back to your account and this credit should be reflected immediately.

Because of various laws and regulations on the sale of weapons, most types of weapons can't be listed on eBay.

We don't allow listings for live ammunition or any component that can be used to create a round of ammunition, including:
- Blank ammunition
- Brass casings
- Gunpowder
- Hulls
- Inert ammunition
- Lead bullets
- Primers
- Shells

So I had a friend list it as Tramp Art
And guess what You guessed it! see link

I guess the best way to sell stuff like this is stick a light bulb in it

Bright idea:hmmmm:

I fell out with gay bay years ago,all very well saying it's a private company with it's own set of rules but they keep changing them!.....I don't really understand why people still try to sell ordnance ect on e-bay any more when there are sites just as good if not better, and certainly a lot cheaper to use,out there who specalize in selling our type of thing...this 'hit and miss' approach of e-bays 'policing' is clear to understand when you realise that some e bay members have nothing better to than to 'trawl' the site for items to report to them

Cheers
Tony

I had a nepalese wall plaque with two crossed small kukri knives (normal tourist type) on it. . It was delisted and i had a word with em about the fact they have bolts welded to the blade to hold them in place and they are made of a cheep metal that could not hold an edge . . Oh ok they said just omit the word knife from listing and put it back on . . 10 mins later it was delisted again by someone else so i had words again. . .this time i was told by another of ebay staff that i must remove the kukris but could list the plaque.stupid.I also had a human skull removed from listing even though its ok in the US its not ok in the UK.i listed a spike bayonet for a number 4 rifle and had it delisted and i argued the point that it does not have a blade and ebay has many listings with spikes that are fine. . I managed to sell two after a while.shells were constantly being removed so i started selling as mentioned before . .pen holders and vases. . That worked.at the moment on ebay there is a very dubious 36m mills that has not been opened going by the pics and is a possable hazard and has been listed for a good few months and still going.

Feebay is inconsistent. They must rely on multiple people dobbing in listings. Despite that as already mentioned if worded properly etc. listings can and do survive their duration.

For this reason I wouldn't dismiss Feebay as a source as some good items still appear from time to time.

Just for my amusement I started collecting words and phrases people use for putting stuff on ebay. Any more?

Brass paperweight (WW1 fuze or similar)
brass vase (large shell case)
cast iron paperweight (hand-grenade)
cast iron vase (WW1 shrapnel shell or similar)
door stop (large, heavy ordnance)
flowerpot (large-calibre howitzer shell case)
former ordinance [sic] activation device (detonator)
inert (ordnance in general)
pencil holder (small shell case)
pioneer's accessory (German detonator or similar)
political symbol (swastika)
propeller (vane-armed bomb fuze)
sapper's accessory (detonator or similar)
swaz sticker (German political symbol)
tramp art (household items made from ordnance)
trench art cap (artillery fuze)
trench art vase (any shell case)
umbrella holder (large shell case)
war (or WW1, WW2, etc.) relic (ordnance in general)
WW2 (or WW1, etc.) item (ordnance in general)

Dave . Thanks for that . I still list on eBay as well but not anything they would find contentious . I did recently list one of those WW1 Mills grenades that had been converted to an inkwell . They removed it in minutes but there have been many other similar ones that stayed the course including fake ones from India ! The sites never been the same since Meg Whitman left as CEO . She never put up with this sort of liberal crap . Mike.

Excuse my not too many listings on bocn, but interesting thread. I successfully sold a "inkwell similar in shape to a WWI mills bomb" on ceramic plate, and added a quill from past times to authenticate the inky bit. But just had a bayonet pulled, very annoying

they pulled your bayonet, yet they list hundreds of swords, both repo and genuine? Talk about inconsistent!!!

It is the inconsistency which is most annoying. What sells in the states cant be sold in the uk, and similar to german and french. Type in waffen xx on german ebay and see what you find. Also features keep changing which just appear to be justifying a web masters existence. I had 1980's playboys pulled but there are tons of porn available.

Ebay eh?

Off topic perhaps but I was catching up with an old mate today. Many years ago we were in a Napoleonic re-enactment group and he told me about the recent sale on Evilbay of a waterbottle. Advertised as genuine Boer war it was marked (my name) 68th. It raised a few laughs but I wish I'd seen the auction as I would quite like it back. More importantly I'd like to let the buyer know he had bought a dud. I'm trying to think how I would have marked it back in 79, maybe ballpoint, not sure. Just goes to show - Cavaet Emptor. While we are are on the subject anyone want to buy an honest, genuine, honest guv ......

Guys - I`ve been there & done most of the different tricks!!
1. As already stated Evil Bay Muppets wouldn`t know an artillery shell from a sea shell
2. Other `members` can report an `illegal` item - & Evil Bay will automatically remove it without any investigation. Ergo this leaves it wide open to petty minded individuals, who, for what ever reason get your item dropped.
Unfortunately Evil Bay reaches a lot more people than SA, BOCN or Gunstar etc & thereby, because of Evil Bays own policy, make your item more sought after by other members (the harder/`more illegal` it is to get the more desireable) - if you survive the BS to the end - you get bigger bucks!
I saw a 37mm pom pom, HE I think, WWI dated in good nick go for 56!! Complete & unfired, but come on 56? Fair play to the seller.
SA etc need to get themselves out there more - not just because we (I) want to sell surplus items but because Evil Bay has too much of a monopoly on so much. I use evil Bay as a point of reference for many things & contrary to popular (read lazy/uninformed/lack of gumption) belief Evil Bay is not always cheaper!
SA does pop up more on searches & Gumtree can pull up the odd good find - but they are hard work in relation to Evil Bay.

Agree with you on that one H......although I do find SA easier, and cheaper, to use than gay bay.....until they have a slow site day, load next page...make a cuppa while waiting...ahh ffs I give up with it:tinysmile_cry_t4:
