English Bofors projectile

FHGrStg

Well-Known Member
I am looking for a drawing from the English 40 mm Bofors L/60 anti-aircraft H.E. shell.
If I know it well, this shell has No.250 head fuze.

Many thanks,

Bofors Mk 1T projectile with No. 250 fuze

No. 250 fuzes were fitted up until 1940 and utilised the Mk 1T projectile. The Mk IIT projectiles were designed for the No. 251 fuze. I'm not exactly sure when the change occurred , but the latest Mk 1 projectiles I have are all dated fairly early in 1940. The earliest Bofors manuals I have are dated 1941 and whilst they have figures (drawings) of Mk 1 projectiles and the No. 250 fuze pointing out the components, they contain no dimensions. You may have some difficulty obtaining dimensioned engineering drawings if you are after this to fabricate a projectile. Original projectiles and fuzes are reasonably easy to obtain.

Cheers,

Graeme

Darkman,

Thank you very much, you helped a lot to me!
I am really interested only the pressed TNT charge, the tracer, and the detonator above the tracer.
(differences between the Hungarian and the British products)

All I know is that: the Hungarians bought the fuze, the TNT charge and the tracer licence from England.
The tracer is similar, just only shorter, and the TNT charge is more, and longer at the English projectiles.

Hi FHGrStg,

On Monday I will scan the drawings of the 2 types of HE shell and the 250 fuze from the 1941 manual I have.
They will show more detail you are after.

Regards,

Graeme

Darkman, thanks for posting these. Do you have the title page of this manual too? Since it is hard to use these sheets as a reference when no title is known.

EOD,

No problems. Here is an image of the handbook cover. Sorry about the mixed formats with the content pages though (.jpg & .pdf)
