school holidays will soon be upon us and an excuse for a visit to the New Forest area would be Fort Nelson. Not only does it have fine collection of guns (eat your heart out Rnix) or a stunning location high up on the bluffs above Portsmouth but the Royal Naval Ordnance museum (Explosion!) is only a 20 minute drive away, the Historic dockyard (HMSs Victory & Warrior) 10 minutes away , the Submarine museum 20 minutes away and it is free! You can always send her indoors to do a bit of shopping in Gunwharf Quays or to the top of Portsmouth Spinnacker Tower by the long route (the stairs)

Thanks Dave,
That has changed quite a bit since my last visit, I was up that way a few weeks ago but only had time to visit one place so Explosion it was. Had a really good day there just ran out of time. Picked up a selection of the baklite plugs that were on sale, some WW1 dated the rest later.
Thanks for posting the pictures,
Best regards Weasel.

Fort Nelson is just up the hill from me. I agree it is a great museum to visit. I will hopefully be helping as part of the gun crew firing the Armstrong 7inch RBL gun on Sunday 27th July - well worth coming for a visit that day! I'd also be happy to meet fellow bocn members at the fort and help show them around most weekends if I'm not busy.
