Is ther anybody who can tell me the use of the glass bit on German a sprengladung see drawing.
I have heard different meanings.

The ones on mine are made of wood, if I am talking about the right piece to which you refer.

For that I understand it's a wedging.
Several materials are used.
see
H. Dv. 481/57 : wießbuche oder preßstoff (white beech or pressed material)
H. Dv. 481/14 : kunstharzpreßstoff (synthetic resin casting)
Belot docs : Bitumen

It is meant to deflect the heat and shockwave which is generated upon impact of the projectile on the target away from the explosive charge, this to avoid premature explosion upon impact instead of after passing the armour.
