Gurkha

The favorite daughter is flying back from Nepal as we speak. Anxious to get a for sure, from Nepal, khukri knife or two. Told her to google the Ghurkas. She's impressed, as well, after reading about them. Also amazed at the innate kindness of the Nepalese. Hard to believe such kind folks could be the baddest-assed fighters.

Just got a pic of the for real Nepalese khukris acquired for me. The longer one was crafted by the village blacksmith. The "fancy" one was from a store in Kathmandu.
Here's the blacksmith, Mr. Krisna, and favorite daughter, in his "shop?". We're talking extreme basic, here. As was the village. Which was devastated by the earthquake earlier this year. Living in tents. Zero facilities.

And the pair. A fancy yak hide sheath w/ two little knives. Will have to read up on those.

Being a collector of knives, as well, these are now the top specimens of that assemblage. Can't wait to get them in hand.

Something about living about living a hard life in the mountains makes men great fighters and socially kind men to their kin. Something that seems to disappear with "civilization".
