H52 MK2 Tin Liner

relbut

Well-Known Member
Enclosed are photos of the liner and H51 box. The liner wasn't original to this box and originally held 9 boxes of 32 rounds of MF 57 7. The liner was not identified in any way as to contents so when I got it I didn't know whether it had 300 rounds in bandoliers or 288 rounds in boxes. The photos show stamping on the liner and for interest the packing pieces that came with the H51 box. The packing pieces are marked thus:
Ends SV804, Bottom SV806, Sides SV743 and SV593A on lid. The other markings on the box are hard to read but start with SV.
Hope this is of some use.

Wow!!

Stupid question time. I assume the packing pieces cradle the H52 snugly into the H51? I havn't seen a reference for these before. Any chance of some close ups please? I might try and replicate some if I can ever get as lucky as you and find an H52

Nice items !

it is very unusual to see the "Tin Inner" never mind the packing pieces !
Nice container and thanks for showing us.

I went as high as 52 on ebay for a H52 recently and didn't win it. I would love to know how much the winner was prepared to go.

Photo of and sizes of the packing pieces are thus:
Have given the sizes as metric as this is the closest dimensions for them. All 3mm plywood with Sorbo rubber glued on.
Bottom 350mm x 95mm Rubber 3/3mm x 25mm x 95mm
Ends 190mm x 95mm Rubber 2/10mm x 25mm x 185mm
Sides 330mm x 160mm Rubber 3/3mm x 45mm x 160mm corners docked
Top 2 strips of ply 25mm x 385mm pinned to Lid with 3 pieces of Rubber on each strip as 2/10mm x 25mm x 35mm and 1/10mm x 25mm x 100mm.
When inserting the liner in the H51 box, the ends and bottom are put in the box and the side pieces are held to the liner when inserting.
The letters/numbers on the packing are very fine about 25mm high and a bit difficult to photograph. Hope this is of help. (Is Sorbo Rubber the right term? It is grey and fairly stiff).

Looks like I missed the photo of the packers.
Here they are.

I think I can get some of this rubber from work, thanks for posting such detailed info.

H52

I have several unopened metal containers of .303 ammo marked:-

H52 Mk2
ADC 1955
SV 156 SA

Can anyone tell me how many rounds are contained in each as I do not want to open them up just to find out. I suspect it is 288 but not sure.

Thanks

Rik

Now thats just SICK!!!

We tell you how rare these things are and now to torture us with this!!!

Hopefully the illustrations in the link might help. Not all H.52s were .303 though. 9mm too.

PS if you open them will the be available for sale :) empty of course

Yes of course they would be available. I have someone for some of the ammo soon I think. Seems a shame to open them being of 'Sardine Can' construction. They would be for sale full to anyone with a Firearm Cert in the UK.

I may keep one now that you tell me that they are rare. I think I have six.

PS. Do they hold 288 ?

H52

Hi Rik,
If you are sure they contain .303 rounds then your options are ;
288 rds in 32 round cartons
300 rds in bandoliers
250 rds in belts.

otherwise it could be 7.92 BESA, 9mm or .22.....I even have a pair marked up for 7.62....
The liner should have a label on it but guess its long gone....

Thanks for the info. Yes, I know from previous ones that they hold the 32 round boxes so 288 it is.

Just noticed I have metal boxes marked:-

H84 Mk1
RG 1966
SV 479 A

H82 Mk1
SF 1966
SV 340 A

H83 Mk2
RG 1973
SV 553 A

Are they of any interest ?

Rik

check out the pics of the boxes in the link to H.51

You will need to know if they are in bandoliers or cartons.

I just want the box, not the rounds inside.

H82 H83 and H84 are all current service boxes.

H82 could contain 7.62
H83 could contain just about anything :)
H84 could be 7.62 link blank or ball, and come in Container C29

I have a complete one for .22 Rimfire rounds, cannot take a picture for the moment as it is buried deep within the workshop and not accessable.
It is complete with the 6 inner tins and all the original packing materials.
